Participants learn how normal trauma responses among domestic violence survivors can affect how they behave when working with child welfare systems and how they are treated by professionals. Topics include: normal trauma symptoms that can be misunderstood; similarities between responses to military torture tactics and domestic violence; the effect of trauma on survivors’ reporting and disclosure; the importance of fully understanding survivors’ circumstances and needs; dynamics around domestic violence, depression, and suicidality; and the value of validating survivors’ feelings and experiences.
